When you think about posting on social media, do you let out a big sigh and furrow your brow? I get it. Social media is the bane of most of our existences but it’s a necessary tool if you are an underemployed actor looking to expand your reach, build you personal brand, and share your talent with the world. I’ve listed a few helpful tips that can make posting on social media a whole lot easier.
1. Repurpose your existing content: If you are struggling (like me!) to come up with new content ideas, consider repurposing existing content. You can take your old blog posts or videos from your social media pages and turn them into a series of social media posts, reels, covers, GIF’s, or infographics (oooo…fancy). This not only helps you save time, but could attract several new followers to your social media accounts.
2. Batch your content creation (Use a social media calendar!): Set aside a block of time each week or month to create a batch (plethora) of content. If you like planning ahead, using a social media calendar can help you stay organized and ensure that you always have something to post. Also, it can be way more efficient than trying to create content on the fly throughout the week (I am STILL guilty of this).
3. Promote User-generated content: If you have followers (even if it’s only a few), ask them to create and share content related to your brand (this would be acting, obviously). Doing this can help you generate more content without having to create it all yourself. This is also a great way to interact with your followers and get to know them better (a WIN).
4. Focus on quality over quantity: While it’s important to post consistently and frequently, it’s also important to ensure that your posts are high-quality and engaging. Please don’t sacrifice quality for quantity, as low-quality content can hurt your reputation and lead to disengaged followers or even worse, people unfollowing you. You don’t want this, so DON’T do it!
5. Learn About and Experiment with different types of content: Be creative! Don’t be afraid to try new types of content on social media, like Instagram or Facebook reels or interactive posts (ooooo….fancy). Experimenting with many different formats can help you find what resonates with your audience and keep your content fresh, hot, and engaging.
6. Use Canva (This one’s a biggie!): If you are brand new to content creation and you want to save time and money and make sure your content looks amazing? Canva is a free software you can utilize to help create social media posts, videos, banners, logos and more. You can use an existing template and make it your own or you can start from scratch. For underemployed actors, this is an amazing tool you can use to share clips from your reel, a monologue you’ve been working on, or something else entirely! Canva also recently rolled out some new AI powered apps. Go check them out!
